Teacher’s Corner

IMG_2948The staff gathered here truly love what they do and want to be here with your child. Some have education degrees and some have early childhood degrees. Every staff member keeps abreast of new developments in the early childhood field through annual training. Teachers are expected to receive a minimum of 25 hours of training each school year. They obtain these hours through local or state early childhood conferences. They are dedicated to giving each child the feeling of being loved and accepted in a Christian environment. With God’s help, we strive to provide you and your child with a positive early learning experience.

Cathy Shisler, Preschool Director; 2009 – present

Early Childhood Education in Lutheran congregations has been one of my greatest passions since 1986. I had the privilege of teaching for over twenty years with two and three year olds in two other Lutheran Preschools, one here in Houston and one in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mark and I have two grown sons, Aaron and Adam that are married and live in the Houston area. I  became a grandmother two years ago. What fun to have a grandbaby to love and spoil.  We enjoy our family time when we can get together with them. Our boys attended a Lutheran school in Houston and as parents, we were very involved in the School Board, and Parent/Teacher Volunteering to help their school.I am a part of the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church family. The goal for Little Fishers Preschool is to make it a safe, fun learning environment where we can praise Jesus too! We want all our families to feel welcome and to know we care about each one of them. Every day the staff opens with devotion and prays for our students, and their families. Kelly, my assistant, or I would love to give you a tour of our great preschool. We have so much to share with you regarding our staff, schedule, curriculum, and enrichment classes. Please call to schedule a time or just come by.

Kelly DeLozier, Administrative Assistant; 2010 – present
Teacher’s Assistant/Motor Skills Teacher; 2009-2010

After my youngest child started Kindergarten, God presented me with a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the preschool that he attended. I started as a Teacher’s Assistant/Motor Skills Teacher in 2009, and accepted the position of Administrative Assistant in 2010. After moving to various places, including New Zealand, with my husband’s company, we decided to make Houston our permanent home. Steve and I have two children, Victoria, 14, and Aidan, 11. I feel so blessed that God has put me in the midst of such wonderful people, both Little Fishers staff and our Little Fishers families. It is a joy to get to know our Little Fishers families, see their smiling faces every day, and have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with them.

I am blessed to have this opportunity to teach at Little Fishers Preschool. I taught at Faith Lutheran Preschool, Sugar Land for 7 years. They closed the school and it was a sad day for many of us. God’s words come to mind, “God will never close one door that he doesn’t open”. I have three children of my own, one son and twin daughters. I am proud to have three grandchildren, one girl and two boys. I was a stay at home mom and feel blessed that I had the opportunity to stay home. I am looking forward to a new school year. Teaching little children is truly a gift from God.

Monica Yang, 3 Year Old Teacher; 2014 – Present

IMG_0280I am blessed and honored to join the preschool team here at Little Fishers Preschool. I am married and have one daughter, Sheree.  I still can’t believe that she is going to 4th grade this year.  Our family moved from CA to Sugar Land, TX four years ago.  Now we attend Fort Bend Community Church in Missouri City, TX.
I have started my teaching career after college.  After my daughter was born in 2006, I had my own state licensed family day care.  I really enjoyed those days with my daughter and her little friends.  Besides early child development, I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language.  Therefore, after my preschool hours, I also teach Chinese to older children.  Teaching has always been my passion.  I am looking forward to have this great opportunity to teach your child this year.  We will learn, grow and have so much fun together.  It will be an awesome year!

Linda Cardenas, 4 Year Old Pre-K Teacher; 2009 – Present

I am beginning my 7th year as a Pre-K teacher here at Little Fishers Preschool.  I received my BA from Stephen F. Austin State University with a double major in Sociology and Business.  I have been teaching preschool for 16 years.  My husband Luis and I have been married for 24 years and have lived in the Houston area for 18 years.  Our 21 year old daughter, Kristina, is a student at the University of Houston, majoring in Elementary Education.  Teaching preschool was not in my original plans.  It was something that came later in life.  When my daughter was in Kindergarten, I spent a lot of time volunteering in her classroom and loved it.  Her teacher told me I was a natural-born teacher and that I should pursue it, which I did.  I’ve never looked back. It’s a new adventure every day.  Other than being a mom, teaching is the most fun, challenging and rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

I have felt very welcomed by everyone here at Little Fishers! I look forward to many fun moments with each of your children as we learn and grow in Christ together!

My name is Lisseth Garcia and I am your child’s Spanish Teacher.  This is my first year teaching at Little Fishers Preschool.  I was born in Veracruz, Mexico.  I have been teaching Spanish for the last three years, previously at public schools for the after care program and at private preschools for Language Kids.  My primary goal is that your child LOVES Spanish and become lifelong Spanish students.
What you can do at home:  We only see your child one time per week, so we need your help practicing at home.  Each week I will post a vocabulary list that the students are learning.  I encourage you to spend five minutes per day reviewing the vocabulary together.
