Teacher’s Corner

IMG_0679The staff gathered here truly love what they do and want to be here with your child. Some have education degrees and some have early childhood degrees. Every staff member keeps abreast of new developments in the early childhood field through annual training. Teachers are expected to receive a minimum of 25 hours of training each school year. They obtain these hours through local or state early childhood conferences. They are dedicated to giving each child the feeling of being loved and accepted in a Christian environment. With God’s help, we strive to provide you and your child with a positive early learning experience.

Cathy Shisler, Preschool Director; 2009 – present

Early Childhood Education in Lutheran congregations has been one of my greatest passions since 1986. I had the privilege of teaching for over twenty years with two and three year olds in two other Lutheran Preschools, one here in Houston and one in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Mark and I have two grown sons, Aaron and Adam that are married and live in the Houston area. I just became a grandmother this past year.  What fun to have a grandbaby to love and spoil.  We enjoy our family time when we can get together with them. Our boys attended a Lutheran school in Houston and as parents, we were very involved in the School Board, and Parent/Teacher Volunteering to help their school.I am a part of the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church family. The goal for Little Fishers Preschool is to make it a safe, fun learning environment where we can praise Jesus too! We want all our families to feel welcome and to know we care about each one of them. Every day the staff opens with devotion and prays for our students, and their families. Kelly, my assistant, or I would love to give you a tour of our great preschool. We have so much to share with you regarding our staff, schedule, curriculum, and enrichment classes. Please call to schedule a time or just come by.

I started as a Teacher’s Assistant/Motor Skills Teacher in 2009, and accepted the position of Administrative Assistant in 2010.After moving to various places, including New Zealand, with my husband’s company, we decided to make Houston our permanent home. Steve and I have two children, Victoria, 12, and Aidan, 9.I feel so blessed that God has put me in the midst of such wonderful people, both Little Fishers staff and our Little Fishers families. It is a joy to get to know our Little Fishers families, see their smiling faces every day, and have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with them.

Melissa McDonald, 2 Year Old Teacher; 2014 – present

I am ready for my exciting first year at Little Fishers Preschool! I feel blessed to join a school that is Christ-centered and has been making a difference in Sugar Land for years.
I am married to Mike McDonald. We have been married for 15 years. We have three beautiful daughters Emily (10), Allison (7) and Olivia (4). Allison attended Little Fishers as a toddler. Olivia is currently in the Pre-K program. We have lived in Missouri City for ten years. People often ask me for the name of my hometown. I tell them the world is my hometown! My Dad was in the military when I was a child, so I was blessed to live in Japan, England and about every corner of the United States.

I am a graduate of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. I have a BS in Broadcast Journalist. Before coming to work at Little Fishers, I worked as a news producer at two NBC affiliates and The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I have a passion for writing and teaching.

When I am not at Little Fishers, I can be found on a soccer field, BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), at my church, in a Girl Scout meeting or at my older children’s school. In Girl Scouts, I am a troop leader and a community leader. I enjoy serving the Lord in Sunday School, youth ministry and event planning at my church. I always have a Fall Festival or Block Party on my agenda!

I look forward to a fabulous year in the 2-year-old classroom. I can’t wait to play an active role in them learning and growing in Christ.

Tracy Williamson , 3 Year Old Teacher; 2014 – present

IMG_0286I am excited about joining the Little Fishers family.   My family moved from Berea Ohio in 1980, and I have been here ever since.   My husband Scott and I are the proud parents of 3 grown and wonderful children,  Ashley, Angela and Tim.  We have one grandson, Logan who is amazing and I love to spoil.  After many years of being a stay at home mom, serving the PTA board and volunteering I went to work for the community outreach department for the  Girl Scouts.  I had been there 12 years when I found Little Fishers as a visitor, and now I am privileged to be part of the staff.   I love working with children and feel that children all learn and grow at their own pace. We as educators have the privilege of guiding them through that journey. I look forward to helping your children on that adventure.

I am eager to start my first official year teaching at Little Fishers Preschool.  It has been an amazing fulfilling experience as a parent and an educator with this preschool.  I look forward to creating some new memories with you and your children.

Denise McAndrews, 3 Year Old Teacher; 2013 – present

I am blessed to have this opportunity to teach at Little Fishers Preschool. I taught at Faith Lutheran Preschool, Sugar Land for 7 years. They closed the school last year and it was a sad day for many of us. God’s words come to mind, “God will never close one door that he doesn’t open”. I have three children of my own, one son and twin daughters. I am proud to have three grandchildren, one girl and two boys. I was a stay at home mom and feel blessed that I had the opportunity to stay home. I am looking forward to a new school year. Teaching little children is truly a gift from God.

Monica Yang, 3 Year Old Teacher; 2014 – present

IMG_0280I am blessed and honored to join the preschool team here at Little Fishers Preschool. I am married and have one daughter, Sheree.  I still can’t believe that she is going to 3rd grade this year.  Our family moved from CA to Sugar Land, TX three years ago.  Now we attend Fort Bend Community Church in Missouri City, TX.
I have started my teaching career since my collage years.  After my daughter was born in 2006, I had my own state licensed family day care.  I really enjoyed those days with my daughter and her little friends.  Besides early child development, I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language.  Therefore, after my preschool hours, I also teach Chinese to older children.  Teaching is always my passion.  I am looking forward to have this great opportunity to teach your child this year.  We will learn, grow and have so much fun together.  It will be an awesome year!

Linda Cardenas, 4 Year Old Pre-K Teacher; 2009 – present

I am beginning my 6th year as a Pre-K teacher here at Little Fishers Preschool.  I received by BA from Stephan F. Austin State University with a double major in Sociology and Business.  I have been teaching preschool for 15 years.  My husband Luis and I have been married for 23 years and have lived in Houston area for 17 years.  Our 20 year old daughter, Kristina, is a senior at the University of Houston, majoring in Elementary Education/Special Education.  Teaching preschool was not in my plans originally.  It was something that came later in life.  When my daughter was in Kindergarten, I was spending a lot of time volunteering in her classroom and loved it.  Her teacher told me that I was a natural-born teacher and that I should pursue it, which I did.  I’ve never looked back. It’s a new adventure every day.  Other than being a mom, teaching is the most fun, challenging and rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
